Popular Bethlehem Breakfast Spot to Temporarily Relocate due to Covid Restrictions
The People’s Kitchen, a wildly popular dining spot located at the southwest corner of Linden and North Streets in Bethlehem, will temporarily move its location and popular cuisine to a sister restaurant, Tavern at the Sun Inn located at 564 Main St. in Historical Downtown Bethlehem. Billy and Holly Gruenewald owner’s of the People’s Kitchen and co-owners/chefs at Tavern will be bringing the “The People’s Kitchen Popup” as a new addition to the downtown morning dining scene in collaboration with their partners who also own Christmas City Spirits, a local micro distillery, also based at the Sun Inn.
Current COVID-19 related restaurant restrictions reducing seating to 25% of normal capacity have rendered the small lunch-counter style restaurant with a reduced seating capacity of less then 10 people which includes those working inside. Surviving only on take out since March, with no end in sight, the Gruenewalds saw an opportunity to again serve their loyal customer base face-to what is now mask-covered-face. “We see a great opportunity to bring back what makes The People’s Kitchen so special and to collaborate on some new things with what we have going on at the Sun Inn during this crazy time.” says Billy. Rest assured regulars, the menu will contain most of the People’s Kitchen breakfast favorites (yes, even the famous home fries) as well as adding a few new ‘Taverny’ options. Included in the additions is a brand new breakfast/brunch cocktail and drink menu featuring Christmas City Spirits. “When they approached us with the idea, we were ecstatic. Their breakfast was one of the reasons we started talking to Billy back in 2015, we love his cooking style.” says Tavern partner Brett Biggs. “The synergy we’re creating by combining ‘People’s’ breakfast cuisine with the incredible dining spaces we have at Tavern as well as our craft products from Christmas City Spirits is going to change the breakfast landscape downtown.”
Hours are 7am-12pm Thursday-Sunday for the next few weeks. Tavern at the Sun Inn is home to the largest off-street patio on Main Street and “The People’s Kitchen Pop Up will be operating there, al fresco, unless weather dictates otherwise, in which case it will move inside the Inn. Tavern at the Sun Inn will continue to operate its dinner menu and service 3-8pm Wed-Thurs and 4-9pm Fri-Sat. The relatively new Tavern Biergarten will operate 5:30-8:30 Thursday, Friday and most Saturdays serving the Tavern Menu.
